EXPERIENCE STATE OF THE ART TECHNOLOGY
Not all eye diseases cause vision problems, especially in the early stages. Our digital retinal camera and oculocoherence tomography (OCT) allows us to detect eye diseases before they cause symptoms, thus allowing quicker detection.
Our Digital Retinal Camera uses flash photography to capture a snapshot of the structures in the eye. Digital photos stay in the patient file as part of the medical record to act as a basis for comparison in future visits. We use it to monitor any small changes in the blood vessels, macula, optic nerve, and retinal features. It is a valuable tool for all patients, and especially for our patients with diabetes, macular degeneration, glaucoma or glaucoma suspicion, or family members with these conditions.
Our Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) instrument allows us to not just look and analyze the surface of retina, but also look at retinal and optic nerve cross sections. Not all eye diseases are detectable just by looking through the microscope. OCT imaging is similar to ultrasound imaging, but it uses safe light and has no radiation.
Our Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer is used in detection and diagnosis of Glaucoma, AMD, Scotomas and brain abnormalities. This analyzer test the full horizontal and vertical field of peripheral vision, identifying potential diminished or blind spots (scotomas) in the patients’ vision. Identifying specific scotomas in ones vision can be indicative of a certain type of brain trauma or disease, such as a stroke or tumor. The patient is directed to identify certain light stimuli provided by the analyzer in their peripheral vision, if the patient is unable to detect the stimuli, then this could indicate trauma and/or scotomas.
Our FDT Field Analyzer allows us to test peripheral vision (or side vision) and assess optic nerve function. It is useful in detecting and assessing glaucoma, as well as other nerve problems including brain tumours.
Corneal Pachymetry is the measurement of the cornea’s thickness. This procedure may be recommended for patients who are at risk for glaucoma or are interested in laser eye surgery.
